Located in the heart of the city, in Banjara Hills, Jagannath Temple is Hyderabad's replica of the original Puri Jagannath temple in Orissa. This temple was built in the same style of Puri temple. However, the size of the temple differs. Dedicated to Lord Krishna who is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, the main temple houses statues of Lord Jagannath with his brothers - Balabhadra (Balarama) and Subhadra. There are also five small temples, each dedicated to a God. To the left of the entrance is a small temple of Lord Ganesha. Opposite is the statue of Lord Shiva. Other small temples house the statues of the Goddess Bimala, an incarnation of the Goddess Parvati; Goddess Laxmi and Shri Hanuman. On one side there is also a sanctuary of Navgraha. There is a devoted priest for each of the divinities. Built on an area of 3000 square feet, its construction was completed in 2009. To build Puri Jagannath Temple Hyderabad, about 600 tons of sandstone were brought from Orissa. The temple was carved intricately; That was carried out by nearly 60 artisans. While the inner part of the sanctum sanctorum consists of a brick wall that is separated by pillars and three entrance gates that are made of sandstone. As you enter the inner door, you can see sculptures of all nine incarnations of Lord Vishnu. The idols of the principal deities are also carved out of wood, brought from Orissa, similar to that of the temple of Puri. With a height of 70 feet, the Shikra or the top of the temple is one of the main attractions. This can be seen in most of the pictures of the Hyderabad Jagannath temple that you will find online. The temple has aesthetically designed interiors. The innermost door of the temple has cutouts from Lord Vishnu's nine incarnations. The exterior of the temple also has sculptures of men and women on its walls. These sculptures are somewhat similar to those of the temples of Khajuraho. In addition to being a popular destination among devotees, this temple also attracts art lovers for its captivating architecture.
